I created One Nine Design for the small shop to find the balance between professional branding and breaking the budget. I am the only website designer in the Mid-Ohio Valley with extensive nonprofit leadership experience and as a small business owner myself, setting me apart and enabling me to have a unique and effective approach to my work. For my nonprofit clients, I bring the knowledge of how to run a nonprofit and the challenges nonprofit leaders face into the design and research process, and I speak your language! Additionally, as a donor myself, I incorporate copywriting techniques designed to grab the attention of your ideal donor and lead them to that donate page!
For my business clients, I bring 20 years of digital marketing knowledge to the table and nearly ten years of website design work under my belt. The result is a website that works for you - not a website that simply informs and looks great.
I’m also committed to investing a portion of every dollar I earn in nonprofits doing impactful work which means when you choose One Nine Design, you are also helping other nonprofits. I'm a local gal, born and raised in Parkersburg with the experience of living in other communities and connections to bring in experts, when needed.
Most of all, I want you to choose the person that rights for you. If that's not me, that's okay too. Just do your homework and find the right fit for your organization.

Working with me is probably not going to be what you expect it to be.
I’m not going to overwhelm you with tech speak and rules and all the things you wish you understood but you just don’t. I’m also not going to build you a website you have no idea to update or can’t access on your own.
What I am going to do is set you up for success by giving you a modern, functional website that does everything you need it to do now but that will also grow as your nonprofit grows. And, I’m going to teach you exactly how to update it when the need arises without having to ask anyone for permission or access.
If you’ve been frustrated with an outdated website you can’t update or complicated processes that never seem to work for you, take a deep breath. You’re in the right place. Together, we’re going to make your website work for you, once and for all, and help you make a great first impression online.

I have experience in creating and maintaining websites using WordPress, Drupal, Wix, Weebly, and a handful of others that are no longer in business. By far, I’ve had the best user + admin + customer service experience with Squarespace. Naturally, I want to give my clients something they can learn easily and feel confident to update whenever they need it, without having to pay someone to make simple updates! So, nine times out of ten, I recommend Squarespace.
Plus….
With Squarespace you never need to worry about potentially harmful plugins that break or slow down your website or remembering to run updates. Nobody has time for that!
Your site has unlimited growth potential. Add unlimited pages, upgrade to a commerce plan, add calendars, blogs, photos, videos -- pretty much anything you can think of!
Squarespace automatically backs up your site multiple times a day and in multiple online spaces. But, if you accidentally delete a page, you can restore it immediately without even contacting Squarespace.
I’m a local gal and if you need help, you don’t have to press 1 or listen to awful hold music. Just give me a call, text me, or email me for an answer within 24 hours. Plus, Squarespace's friendly and efficient 24/7 support is included in your annual subscription.
It’s seriously so easy to update. Make quick changes to text, photos, links or any other content from any computer or even on their app.

You could do it yourself. Lots of people do. And it’s true that it’s sometimes referred to as a “drag and drop” platform for amateurs.
(For the record, I do roll my eyes every time I hear that.) I believe a designer is the best choice for a few reasons:
Your time is valuable. While you could create the site yourself, you’re spending time doing something other than what you probably love (working with clients, running a nonprofit, talking with donors, etc.) Plus, it’s going to take the average person twice as long to do simple tasks simply because they are new. And time = money
Because I’ve designed so many websites, I pretty much know exactly which layout is best for an organization or company with little to no “messing around.” Often people waste a ton of time trying to get the look they want because they didn’t start with the right framework.
All sites are not created equal. Some industries need specific types of navigation, color schemes, typography, images, etc. The user experience is vitally important to the success of your site and if web design isn’t your main thing, your users are going to notice. Thoughtful design, considering many UX factors, and building sites that Google is going to love is my thing!
I’m certified in website accessibility and trained to meet all guidelines, ensuring that your website is inclusive and accessible to all users, regardless of ability. The average DIY user is not equipped to ensure their website meets these national guidelines.
A great designer is going to take your goals and build a site that converts visitors to customers or donors. I have a wide array of resources to help nonprofits and small businesses integrate really great features into their website that make it unique AND effective. This goes way beyond being able to drag and drop.

The first step is to complete the website discovery form. This will put your project on my radar and I’ll reach out to you for more information or to schedule a call within 48 hours of receiving your form.
From Start to Launch:
Understanding the Process and Client Expectations
The first step is to complete the Website Discovery Form so we can discuss your project! If you reach out to me another way, I’ll direct you back to the form so that I can keep all project requests organized.
After reviewing your form, I’ll reach out to you to either schedule a more in-depth call to discuss your project or to refer you to another designer who may be a better fit for your project. While I’ve answered some frequently asked questions below, this will be a time to ask me anything you want to know about my website design process.
If we decide that I’m the right fit for you (shocker: I’m not always!), I send you a customized link to your online client portal where you'll complete items including a contract, project deposit, and booking form.
Please note: BEFORE we begin working together, you’ll be required to provide three things: Your logo, color palette, font preferences, and design preferences, your website copy (I’ll give you my signature framework to help guide you), and photos, icons or graphics.
One Nine Design does not design websites for religious institutions, political organizations, tobacco, alcohol, or cannabis companies, or other industries with inherently high-risk activities, such as gambling, firearms, or extreme sports.
